A rare specimen of soldier's pay in the Ching Dynasty
Soldiers of the army in the Ching Dynasty were classified as Warriors and Guards. The former was entitled to a monthly pay of 1.5 taels, the latter, 1 tael. This piece was a double pay to a warrior, or a triple pay to a guard.
Only 3-4 pieces are known to exist. Almost all the others seen in markets
are modern imitations.
